About

I am a potter and illustrator inspired by the beauty and wisdom of the natural world.

I am from Worcester and currently living and based in Hereford.

My great-grandparents worked at Worcester Porcelain in the 1960s-70s: my Great-Nan a lusterer and my Great-Grandad a kilner. My Grandad was an industrial kilner making ceramic crucibles for molten metal.

Though I didn’t realise until recently I had any familial ties to ceramics. As a child I only noticed the arts and crafts done at home. My other Great-Nan was very talented as knitting, crochet and embroidery, and the house was decorated with them. My Nan made flower arrangements.

My earliest connection to art was through painting, flowers being my favourite thing to paint. I spent my childhood and teenage years exploring all the ways I could express myself, through writing, drawing, joining my local performing arts academy.

I was a very shy and emotional only child. The gardens of my parents, grandparents and great grandparents were my sanctuary. I got to know every inch intimately.

My favourite spot in my parents’ garden was under a large Weeping Willow tree, with an orange swing attached underneath.

Still undecided on what to do after Sixth Form, I applied to the foundation course at Hereford College of Arts, where I found a love for clay. Spending my Fridays in the ceramics workshop was a highlight of the course, where I got to learn how to coil and slab-build my first pots.

I felt inspired to dive deeper into the craft of ceramics and applied for a degree in Contemporary Design Crafts at HCA. I started the course very curious about metalwork, woodwork and textiles, but remained loyal to ceramics as a medium. Over the degree I learnt how to throw my first cup and bowl, and how to transfer my digital drawings onto clay surfaces. All of these interests ultimately culminated into my degree show work, ‘Community’, which you can read about the inspiration and making process in my portfolio.

I wouldn’t have been able to realise this body of work without the amazing tutors at HCA who helped me understand exactly what I wanted to achieve. I’m incredibly grateful for the technical demonstrators who taught me the skills to realise my work. I’m super lucky I was able to be tutored 1-1 in pottery by a local master in South Wales, who lives next to the woodland ‘Community’ became heavily inspired by. She has taught me nearly everything I know about pottery, and especially taught me how to make a well designed and made teapot.
